Responsibilities:

  • To carry out all gardening duties necessary to maintain and upkeep the crematorium gardens including grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, tree work, removing weeds and planting.  
  • To be aware of the location, types and allotment of garden memorials; if requested, liaise with the Administration and Memorial team and/or customers in order to assist with these matters.
  • To ensure regular clearance of items from memorials left by the public, including dead flowers, plants, glass vases and any unauthorised ornaments. 
  • To assist with the cleaning and maintenance of garden furniture, particularly those under memorialisation. 
  • To carry out maintenance and care of plants in the Chapel and waiting area. 
  • To maintain and clean gardening equipment and machinery and where possibly carrying out repairs. 
  • To assist with the construction of memorials. 
  • To liaise with the Administration and Memorials team for the mounting of plaques. 
  • To maintain and clean the memorial areas, boulder stones, seats and equipment.
  • To clean plastic vases and put them back at collection for re-use.
  • To ensure that car parks, entrances and forecourts of the crematorium are clear and tidy prior to each days' services, including carrying out a daily litter patrol to ensure excellent presentation of the crematorium. 

Key Requirements:

  • Able to carryout a physically demanding job, involving lifting heavy objects and remaining on your feet for long periods of time in various weather conditions. 
  • Trained and experienced in using a ride-on mower, hand mower, hedge trimmer, powered hand tools and other horticultural machinery safely and professionally. 
  • Knowledge of plants and gardening techniques. 
  • Ability to follow instructions and guidance from senior team members. Show initiative and be pro-active regarding the presentation and development of the grounds. 
  • Pass on accurate and timely information, including reporting necessary repairs or tool requirements. 
  • Be a positive and pro-active team member.
  • It is a requirement of the role that you will the FBCA Cremator Technician training and assessment. The training will be provided by and paid for by the Company, and requires an ability to undertake some manual handling and heavy lifting.
